COMMENTARY BY ADILSON LOPES: (extract from the Portuguese original)![]()
“…Man and woman are like two poles of a one unique energy, two aspects of one Being. … I think we could advance in this work if, instead of attacking one another, especially criticizing the mistakes or ‘ways of being’ of one gender or the other, we would seek to mutually support one another. We would progress more rapidly if we sought this integrative understanding. … Human beings are not exclusively masculine, nor exclusively feminine – be this man or woman! … Unfortunately, this polarization, and separatist and antagonistic vision is inevitable for those who have not yet attained the least progress in the Inner Journey. … “
MY RESPONSE:
This is the belief that has created the very situation of incomprehension and dependence from which I propose we awaken. We are not two poles of one unique energy because we are not a body. We “have” a body. We need to understand that we are Consciousness and live and express ourselves in a body that manifests one polarity. I suggest you read my previous entries, which might help you to understand my message.
Each gender contains both polarities within itself. I prefer to relate it to the concept of yin/yang, which, instead of manifesting masculine and feminine, deals with action and receptivity. There are men who prefer expressions that are feminine in appearance but even then, these come from a masculine source. In the same way some strong women prefer masculine expressions. Neither preference, nor manifest choice determines gender. Judgment or dogma have nothing to do with it.
Being/Consciousness. Each has his own Being and this does not depend on anyone or anything. The Absolute is the All. We arrive at the same end by different means, and each must do this alone and whole. We support one another in essence and in moments. Nobody learns without the experience of doing it himself. We do not help anyone by carrying him. Masters help us to get ourselves up and to continue on the way by ourselves. They strengthen us. This is the way of friendship and this is the expression of disinterested human love.
I have always considered criticism as something extremely positive through which we can learn humility and to correct ourselves, accepting our “ways of being” with humour and dignity – the only antidotes for “ego”. And, really, the other person’s intension doesn’t matter if the person knows how to benefit from it to discover himself, his reactions, and his individuality. It is always about oneself. It seems to me this is the integrative understanding you refer to.
Contrary to what you say, polarization is not antagonistic nor separatist. Polarity is at the base of the experience of being human in the third dimension. I repeat, each gender whole and in his own way. I agree with you about what the future can offer once we have the modesty and the courage to stand on our own feet.
Fullness of Being is transcendental. It is not a question of the body or of the gender, which is just the clothing. This option is always available once we dare discover that, in spite of all this and the experience we gain, WE ARE NOT THE BODY.
Thank you, Adilson!
